Paul McCartney Announces First-Ever Wings Anthology
Rock and Paul McCartney fans have a special reason to celebrate. On November 7, the first anthology dedicated exclusively to Wings – the band McCartney formed after the Beatles – will be released, celebrating the group’s 1970s legacy.
Simply titled “Wings,” the collection will be available in several formats — 1CD, 2CD, Blu-ray, 1LP and a limited-edition 3LP colored vinyl set. The Blu-ray marks a historic milestone: it’s the first time Wings’ songs have been issued in Dolby Atmos on a physical format.
All multi-disc editions include a 32-page booklet filled with rare photos, interviews, and detailed information about the band. Pre-orders are already underway, and an official trailer is available online.
Wings: a legacy of hits and No.1 albums
Though originally in the shadow of the Beatles, Wings placed all 23 of their singles in the U.S. Top 40, including 14 Top 10 hits and five consecutive No.1 albums. The group’s core lineup featured Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney, and Denny Laine (ex-Moody Blues), and it ran from 1971 to 1980. They earned 11 Grammy nominations, matching the Beatles.
Classics still in McCartney’s live shows
The new anthology gathers international hits like “Band on the Run,” “Live and Let Die,” “Jet” and “Let ’Em In,” alongside deep cuts such as “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five,” “Call Me Back Again” and “I’ve Had Enough.” Many of these songs still appear in McCartney’s live shows today.
McCartney also wrote a new introduction for the release and oversaw the artwork with Aubrey “Po” Powell of Hipgnosis, the design studio that created the original covers for Band on the Run, Venus and Mars and Wings Over America
